Be ready for surprises. The manual is filled with them.
Purchased this unit from an authorized Friedrich dealer who is also an authorized service provider. First off,the manual describes the filter as the book type,two pieces where the carbon filter would go. This was the filter system for earlier Kuhn a.c.’s that I own. This unit has a single filter which will accept the included carbon filter which is attached by 6 pegs. According to Friedrich they no longer supply replacement filters. Most importantly the instruction manual is poorly written. The clear function to reset check filter can not be performed as written.. Spoke to Friedrich rep who could not answer the question. Third the remote I received eats batteries. They are sending a new one. The auto function was problematic. The machine recycled with a 5 degree difference. Had to change set points and clear TIM function. Customer service tries,but default answer is to call for authorized service. I just want a clearly written manual. Oh,and if you call,wait,because the leave your number option is a joke. Nobody calls back. I have sent a similar email to Friedrich support. This is an expensive product. Somebody failed to proof read the manual,and support should be able to answer simple questions. Anyway it works in the On mode well,Auto another story. Edit on 7/20. First,never heard back from Friedrich. Cleaned filter,but can not clear the command. Friedrich only in mon through friday. Also have not yet received promised replacement remote. For the price paid,expect better. Dropping rating from two stars to one. Final edit 8/14/2019. Waiting for replacement remote which is on backorder. Remote that came with unit eats batteries. Major annoyance on clearing filter warning resolved. Push fan and speed buttons on unit at same time for 3-5 seconds. All things being equal,the problem is with Friedrich,not the unit. Customer service is totally in the dark. The manual is inaccurate as to correct settings for this unit. My authorized service provider was having problems finding answers. The machine is good. Hopefully Friedrich management gets their act together. The 1 star rating stands for the time I spent doing Friedrichs job!

A/C has nice design, but quality is terible. won't cool small room and is very noisy on low speed.
The A/C fan is very loud even on the low speed. Our 20 years old A/C Kenmore operates much quieter and cools the room more efficient. Our room is only 175 sf and A/C designed for 400 sf. Whole night we were trying to get temperature in the room to 70 degree with outside temperature 70 degree and we could cool it lower than 73 F. We won't recommend this A/C to anyone. We will try to do anything possible to return it back. It doesn't worst even 40% of what we paid for it. There's a lot cheaper A/C with better and quiet technology. This isn't ultra quiet technology as they advertise it everywhere. It's true that compressor is quiet, but you can't hear anything but that very, very loud fan. It was sleepless night. Don't buy it! If you have any questions, we would gladly answer it.

Great air conditioner
Not sure why the negative reviews--this ac is great. It is quiet for a window AC. It has a 7 day customizable schedule feature and is wifi capable and energy star. I will enjoy this for many years.

Unit breaks down and they make repairs difficult
What a piece of junk. First the controller broke after 2 months of use. The nightmare started with the warrant claim. They wanted to remove the unit (a wall unit) and leave an opening for a week. I would not agree to leave an unsecured hole and Friedrich refused to replace the controller in home. The controller is located in the front and is held in place by 1 screw.
