Climbing Roses: An Illustrated Guide to Varieties, Cultivation and Care, With Step-By-Step Instructions and Over 160 Beautiful Photographs

I was looking for a book that would give detailed information on training climbing roses - and in particular, how to best grow the smaller climbing roses in containers - along with pruning and shaping information, hopefully illustrated in detail. This book isn't it. This book is a slim book about various varieties of climbing roses with only four small photos showing the author placing bamboo canes in a container, and stating how to wrap wires or strings around the canes. There was no more information than that. There is quite a more detailed description, with photos, about planting a climbing rose against a wall using a trellis. Later, there was one small photo with the caption "in a confined space, restrict the number of main stems and train them into an S-shape" but the photo could have been accompanied by a sketch showing exactly what these "S-shape" stems should look like - the photo was cluttered.All-in-all, I would say this book is for people wanting only the bare minimum of information about climbing roses, their cultivation, care, etc., with lovely color photos and suggestions, and a good chapter on various climber distinctions: ramblers, large, medium, and small climbers. For the small price, it is good if you're just looking for a simple lure to get you interested in growing climbing roses.I found Peter Schneider's book, "The Right Rose for the Right Place" to be much more helpful to me, offering great detailed descriptions about climbing rose culture, even how to grow climbing roses as ground cover, why to pull out multiflora roses, and for each rose variety listed, the author lists at least two different places to grow them, i.e. 'trellis, free-standing shrub'...exceptionally good information.
