Four Stars
Nib scratches the paper a lot, be careful if using textured paper. But other than that writes beautifully

Opulent design, ordinary writing
I really wanted to like this pen more...not least because of its premium price and imagined Japanese craftsmanship. It took quite a long time to arrive from Japan to London and in the meantime I had already received some incredibly cheap Chinese Jinhao pens for a nano-fraction of the price (over 90% cheaper). These were very impressive: ok smoothness with generous ink flow, and INCLUDED in the bargain, a converter! In contrast, the suppliers of the Platinum were too stingy to include its converter, which is ordinarily supplied in the box. But, the price was competitive, so after failed negotiations to include said converter, I was still looking forward to luxury writing from the elegant Platinum - luxury writing in comparison to the more than competent Jinhao brand. In fact, I was disappointingly underwhelmed - and this in itself is virtually an understatement.Yes it flows - very wet even - but silky smooth it aint, dare I use penophile linguistics, but "scratchiness" is felt (as much I want to justify my purchase as a self subscribed consumer might under the delusion of ostentation, I will not try to persuade myself that this is but "feedback"). And this is indeed bewildering, for the pen is perfectly crafted in appearance, the nib, inspected under a magnifying loupe, is aligned. Even more unusual for a Japanese pen, is that the bold nib (B) writes even thicker than a German Kaweco BB that I have....curiouser and curiouser. For some of course, this might cause salivations, for me, this was not what I intended to choose. If you own a Kaweco, that will feel smoother, if you own a Jinhao, that will feel more substantial. This is a beautiful looking pen without the beautiful performance.
