100% worth the buy
My marineland canister filter started leaking pretty bad after 10 years. I literally bought the cheapest filter I saw that was good enough for my 55 gallon tank since I'm on unpaid maternity leave. All I can say is wow! I am very impressed with it and I'm glad I didn't spend the money on another canister filter. It definitely has power, and is working great. It's strong enough, plus more for my 55 gallon tank. It may be a bit much for a 40 gallon. But I wouldn't hesitate to put it in a larger tank. It's perfect for me. Added bonuses. If the power goes out I don't have to worry about a canister filter back flowing since it's all in the tank. 2nd bonus, I gained space on the outside of the tank because everything is in the tank.3rd my fish are more active. I believe it to be due to the extra water flow and oxygen in the water. 4 it's affordable. I'm going to get a 2nd to do my other 55 gallon with one. Also, it's just plug in and go.

Amazing filter
Keeps our tank super clean and clear. Has nice aeration and filtration as well as really keeps the water moving in the tank. Our fish loves to play in the current coming out of the pump. Will be buying more to put in our other tanks

Best filter
I have had a 100 gallon aquarium for last 16 years. I have gone through about 6-7 filters due to hard water. This is the easiest filter to set up and clean out. No buying expensive replacement filter. Clean out takes 5 minutes in the sink. It adds a lot of air to the water and does a good job cleaning up. I have had it in for about a month now and love it.Caution- don’t buy too big for you tank. It does have a powerful jet to move a lot of water. Too much pressure in a small area can over stress your fish. Place it to one side of your tank so there are areas that don’t have strong currents to give fish a break and/or add areas(coves, plants, coral, decorations, for the fish to get out of the current.2 month update- the suction cups suck and the filter continues to falls off and blow rocks and plants everywhere. Seems like it has lost power already and not picking up as well. We will see how long it lasts

A 5 Star No Go
It works awesome. Too awesome for my 40 gallon pond. The product listing says 40-150 gallon. It’s waaaay to powerful for anything under 75 gallons. The water movement is too great for the fish and they suffer as a result. This unit needs a ton of water space then add lots of decora or rocks situated in house shapes to make hidey holes the fish can go in when they need a break. The jet is powerful and it moves the water too well. The problem is you can only turn the flow down to a set amount which was still too much for my pond. It’s really perfect for an extra large setup though and I can totally recommend it for that. The filters are mega and the filtration system kicks major butt. It has two monster filters that easy to remove, wash clean and put back in.It is a really great thing…..for a large set up only. In my case, I have to return it but as a lifelong fish tank owner, I can say it’s a fantastic product. So winner winner chicken dinner if you have a very large setup and need a system to accommodate it.For smaller setups, keep looking.

I bought this because of the reviews, they are lies
Because of Those great reviews, I thought it was me. I kept trying. I emailed company about a problem, their answer was do it differently. I kept trying. There are no instructions, i thought i had something turned wrong. the company said do it differently. i tried and tried ,if that many people could figure it out, why cant I? Im not brilliant but Im not an idiot. The rviews praised how easy it was, it comes already put together and that was the last time it was easy, it was easy taking it out of the box. That was the only time it was easy. then I put it in the tank for the first time was easy. I plugged it in, and iit was pumping pretty good, then it rose up out of the water like titanic in reverse , i thought maybe the suction cup werent attached correctly, so i put it back with the suctions cups tight, it floated back up to the top. I emailed the company and told them the issue... their answer was... do it differently. I kept trying because of those reviews. but this morning, i was taking it out to clean,it had only been a week, but i thought maybe that was what i was doing wrong, not cleaning it often enough. I unplugged and reached for the creature, it burpped,, floated to the top spewing all the scum and nastyness throughout the water. i finaly realized it wasnt me. This thing is cheap plastic and a pack of lies. But unfourtanly i thought it was me past the cut off time. Everybody was realy sorryabout that. Dont buy this piece of crap but if you wanna beleave those great reveiws, fine. That many people cant be wrong, but if it floats back up like a backwards titanic... its not you. send the monster back.

Wish it was clear
Very quite, sucks up the mess but the water has a brownish tint since we got it. Water stays clear for a few days. Don't like having to change the water constantly for it too look nice

Easy to use. Strong pump.
I was using this for a 30 gallon. A bit too strong for this size but i figured a way to calm down the current for my fish. I love not having to buy new filters. Just wash these out. My only con is how the top part comes off and you have to becareful because when you take it apart the middle where the pin rod and motor is kind of falls apart and you dont want to lose anything. When you try to turn the top where the water flow comes out,you can only move it so much otherwise it unlockes it and comes off. I wish there was a way to lock it and still be able to turn the out going flow with out that worry. Like it should be seperate pieces. It is a great pump though.

This thing RIPS
Holy smokes, for once the advertised flow rate was legitimate, insane power. This has got to be the best bang for your buck in terms of flow rate and filtration capability.Do not put this in a 40 gal unless youre trying to simulate white water rapids, the flow rate is not adjustable.Love this thing.

40 gallon???
Whoever rated this an acceptable filter for a 40gallon tank is raising salmon or something. I put this in a 55galon and had to turn it off immediately. This is ridiculously over powered and will be being returned. I could recommend it for a larger tank if it was not for the amount of noise this thing produces. Even still there should be some sort of diffusion for the water coming out because any fish that gets blasted by this thing is going to have to need to be put into concussion protocol.

very high power
The media could not be loaded. i’ve got this for my 90 gallon turtle tank, i have to keep the flow coming just above water level in a sort of mini fountain/rapid or else the substrate is blown into a crater. my turtle is big enough to swim with/work against the current and so far the fish have seemed to adjust to the new high pace (taking full advantage of the currentless hiding places). this is perfect for my setup however it’s listed as 40-120 gallon; your tank should definitely lean towards the larger side. it’s a great filter, easy to take apart for cleaning/replacements just beware the strength of this one in particular**please note; tank being reconstructed after posting, wanted to show the movement of the sand before repairing- the rock’s stressing me out too**

My fish love it !
50 gallon tank … I have the output pipe facing upwards, making a 1 ½ “ ‘fountain’, which my fish take turns to swim through as it lifts their bodies above the water surface. Hours of fun for us all. I put some floating plants halfway along the tank so that the other half of the water surface is still …. Oh, and yes, it keeps the water crystal clear, and is easy enough to clean (if I was redesigning it I would just make the filter section easier to pull off … ) So glad I bought it… would highly recommend.
