Q: Would this work well to solder switches to a PCB on a mechanical keyboard?

Yes, this is excellent solder for electrical applications. However, keep in mind this is a large roll that is a lot more then you would need if you are only doing one keyboard. I work on home electronics all the time and still l have a roll I bought at least 3 years ago that I use almost weekly. If you only need a small amount I would recommend you go to sparkfun.com they sell small quantities of solder for small jobs, it may not be Kester brand but it is good solder for your job.

All Kester Solder products are single core.

Q: The diameter of this solder is less than 1/32?

1/32" is 0.031", so yes, even if it actually measures out to .022" it is smaller than 1/32" This product is available in 0.031" if you prefer a thicker solder.

Q: Does the Kester 44 solder have a shelf life or expire in x number of years?

The jist: it lasts forever in a dry, non corrosive environment. The expiration date on the box is for the manufacturers warranty.
